And if what I have to do to make this happen is wear shorts in fifty-degree weather...well, so be it. The power of positive thinking and all that jazz.

One day last January, during school dropoff, a car pulled up next to me, and a man's head poked out. "You're the one with the Tom Fords," he said. This was an odd thing to hear from a person you've never met.
"You need to give them to me," he said.
The Mom Uniform: Autumn Edition
Let's throw it back to 2019, when I wrote a post that is 2020 in a nutshell if I've ever seen one. (Updated with brand-new outfit suggestions.)
Today's post is a twofer, inspired by a couple of reader questions I received via Insta.
- Does comfort and style exist? Can you wear yoga pants but still be stylish? and
- I need a Mom Uniform for fall; help me.
The answer to the first question is a resounding "yes," and am certain that it is so, because otherwise I would be naked. There is just no power on earth (except for, perhaps, the possibility of a date with Jason Momoa) that could get me out of the house attired in clothing that makes me feel restricted in any way.

I was never a "mom jewelry" kinda person...but Tiny Tags are irresistible. (This is the "dog tag" style, FYI.)

Wishes And Dreams
For the purposes of this post we're going to go ahead and abandon all reason and practicality. 'Kay?
Glad we're clear on that. So now let's please take a look at my fall wishlist.

OK. You have to read that book pictured up there. Have to. Erin sent it to me a couple of weeks ago with a note saying that I had to read it immediately, and she was right: I started reading it on the plane to St. Louis, and then could not stop. You know how everyone (myself included) is constantly bemoaning how we live in an increasingly online - and thus disconnected - world? Magic and Loss suggests that the Internet isn't an abandonment of cultural and social traditions, or even "progress"...it's just, very simply, what happened next. Virginia Heffernan's explorations of everything from "hyperlexia" (I have it; so do you) to the poetry of Twitter are must-reads. So seriously: go read this. It's going to change how you see...well, your life.
I've mentioned the brand before, but I still cannot get over how obsessed I am with Mociun jewelry. The rings are obviously their star pieces (oooooo this one), but please look at these earrings. They're like the perfect wear everywhere, every day pair...with a twist. Loooooove.
This video of a bunch of 12-year-old boys consoling a team they beat in a soccer tournament is BEAUTIFUL. (Kids Show Us How To Have Compassion in Victory, via Now This.)

FEELINGS.
I was prepared to be all "but my baybyyyyyyy!" about Goldie's second birthday - I've done this once or twice before, as you may recall - and so this time I came prepared with a mandate: I would remember to take a minute every once in awhile to stop being a hostess and just be with my kids. It's so easy, when you're the one throwing a party, to get caught up in cooking and serving drinks and answering the door and making sure you talk to everyone...and then boom: the whole thing is over and everyone is gone and the dishes need doing, and you realize that you just spent the past several hours running around like the proverbial chicken and completely forgot to notice what was happening.
You want the day back.

Aquazzura is KILLING IT with the tasseled shoes lately. (These are my favorites and I would like to wear them every day all spring and summer except I won't because children.)
FYI: Ferndell artisanal coffee (the company dates back to 1862) is HELLA good (and has a swoon-worthy Instagram page).
A La Plage
Carmel never gets old for me.
I mean, the town is definitely a bit of a spectacle: everyone is super wealthy (or at least that's how it appears) - we're talking Maseratis and Lamborghinis literally lining the streets - which creates an atmosphere that might not be to everyone's taste. (As an example, we saw one twenty-year-old driving down the street in his red Ferrari with his red Ferrari hat on and talking - loudly, of course - into his red Ferrari-covered cell. Eeeeeeughhh.)
But occasional bursts of attitude aside, there's also such a lovely small-coastal-town vibe. Sort of like Cape Cod, minus the lobster. And it's beautiful - to get there, you wind down a road past stunning little Spanish-style houses, and if you keep going all the way down to the water you find the most perfect white sand sloping down into a bright blue cove. Great (albeit expensive) shopping, great food, great weather, great drive; definitely one of my all-time favorite day trips.
