About Jordan Reid

I grew up in New York City, studied cognitive neuroscience (which is less fancy than it sounds) at Harvard University, then moved out to Hollywood to work as an actress for a few years. After a truly spectacular career implosion, I moved back to NYC, married a musician who I met on MySpace (somewhat shockingly, this man continues to be my husband), and tried to figure out what to do next.

In 2010 I created Ramshackle Glam to follow my experiments (and frequent failures) in the spheres of fashion, beauty, entertaining, and home décor. In the years since, Ramshackle Glam has been featured in publications including Time MagazineCosmopolitan, the New York Observer, The Huffington Post, and LonnyThe brand has spun off into three web series (Jordan In The House, with Meredith Video Studios, and two beauty-focused series for Allure Magazine) and two books – Ramshackle Glam (2014) and Carrying On (2016). I’ve also worked as an ambassador for brands including Dove, Simple Skincare, Timex, Thumbtack and Ecco Domani, and have conceptualized and shot campaigns for companies including DKNY, Neiman Marcus, St. Ives, Wacoal, and Noritake.

Last fall, I opened an online shop called glam | camp with New York-based artist Erin Williams, where we sell things like coloring books for parents, the sweatshirts that we actually want to wear, and the coolest blanket on the planet (really). Erin and I are also co-writing a book for Penguin Random House that’ll be released in early 2017.

So the short story is that this website – a project that I started more or less on a whim mostly because I needed so badly for something (anything, really) in my life to change – has transformed my life in ways that I never saw coming. (This is of course extremely exciting, but also makes it extremely difficult to answer the question, “So…what do you do for a living?” I just say I’m a writer. Life is easier that way.)

My husband Kendrick and I recently documented our move from the East Coast to the West, where we completely made over a house that we bought off of a FaceTime video (really), and are now settled down in Silicon Valley with our two little kids and two even littler dogs.

P.S. Because it’s worth mentioning, this is my idea of a truly great date night.
