Remember how I said I was super into my living room's kind of Aspen-y vibe, what with the dark wood and exposed beams and such?
I changed my mind.

Jordan is inspiring because she refuses to be thrown off course by people who judge her. And her site is a great collection of simple, unpretentious recipes, smart ideas for housekeeping and decor, and fabulous ways to make the most of New York City, her native town.

I grew up in New York City, studied cognitive neuroscience (which is less fancy than it sounds) at Harvard University, then moved out to Hollywood to work as an actress for a few years. After a truly spectacular career implosion, I moved back to NYC, married a musician who I met on MySpace (somewhat shockingly, this man continues to be my husband), and tried to figure out what to do next.
In 2010 I created Ramshackle Glam to follow my experiments (and frequent failures) in the spheres of fashion, beauty, entertaining, and home décor. In the years since, Ramshackle Glam has been featured in publications including Time Magazine, Cosmopolitan, the New York Observer, The Huffington Post, and Lonny. The brand has spun off into three web series (Jordan In The House, with Meredith Video Studios, and two beauty-focused series for Allure Magazine) and two books - Ramshackle Glam (2014) and Carrying On (2016). I’ve also worked as an ambassador for brands including Dove, Simple Skincare, Timex, Thumbtack and Ecco Domani, and have conceptualized and shot campaigns for companies including DKNY, Neiman Marcus, St. Ives, Wacoal, and Noritake.
Last fall, I opened an online shop called glam | camp with New York-based artist Erin Williams, where we sell things like coloring books for parents, the sweatshirts that we actually want to wear, and the coolest blanket on the planet (really). Erin and I are also co-writing a book for Penguin Random House that’ll be released in early 2017.
This week's Jordan In The House shoot involved things like horses, tiny, fluffy chickens that looked like snowballs, and zebus (look it up).
The DIGS Channel (and my own show, Jordan In The House), launches April 2...one week from today!
Me as a garden nymph at a home scenting event, 2014
I'm not willing to accept that it's almost fall, because my internal calendar remains convinced that it's still April 2020. Or maybe April 2025; who knows! This reluctance-to-embrace-the-new-season is made vastly easier by the fact that it is approximately ten thousand degrees in Southern California at the moment, and I can barely walk my dog around the block without dissolving into a pool of sweat.
You know by now that I'm a bit of a candle obsessive; even when it's hot out, I have candles burning. Beyond being something that's always been a personal habit of mine, it's just kind of necessary when your home is filled with Child and Dog smells (yummmm).
Ulli x Kahina Giving Beauty Candle
A friend of mine once stopped by without warning, and entered my house only to point at the candle I had burning on my desk. "You," she said, "are the only person I know who actually lights candles when you're just sitting at home by yourself."
That cannot be true. ...Doesn't everybody keep candles lit at all times?
Oh, hi! Welcome to my website. If you’re new to Ramshackle Glam, you might have gotten here by way of a Google search for makeup tips for asymmetrical eyes, or because you’re nervous about having a baby (or a second baby) and how it’ll change your life, or because you read the saga of my hacking, or maybe because you've stumbled across my (many) musings on single motherhood. All of these ways of arriving here are completely legit, because those are all things that I write about.
It’s a lot, I know. Let me help you figure out what the site’s all about, so you can decide if you want to hang out. (That said, if you're trying to get in touch with me for a specific reason and don't want to wade through a full life history, go ahead and email me at jordan@ramshackleglam.com.)

Remember when I went through a phase of taking self-timed photos in my living room with ExerSaucers in the background because I had just had a baby and couldn't leave the house, ever? Good times.
One of my favorite Jordan In The House episodes, with pumpkin-carving tips and ridiculous sound effects.
I love fall.
I hate carving pumpkins. (Like, with a passion.)
