Cherry-Almond Chocolate Clusters

I’ve been making homemade chocolates – by which I mean melted chips sprinkled with various things that sound like they will probably taste good together and then poured onto wax paper to harden – for a couple of years now. They’re one of my go-tos mostly because they’re so easy to make, but also – let’s be honest, now – because they’re virtually guaranteed to elicit impressed oohs and aahs from anyone who has not themselves made homemade chocolates (and is thus unaware that the process involves a microwave and approximately three minutes).

It’s completely unjustified showing-off, and I am okay with that.

The chocolates that I made last weekend and brought over to my friend Amy’s place pulled the double-duty of being very delicious (basically a DIY version of one of my all-time favorite chocolate bars, Cadbury’s Fruit & Nut) and providing a nice little boost to the skin. They contain ingredients that taste great and are specifically targeted at protecting your skin from damaging UV rays and inflammation: antioxidant-packed cherries and almonds filled with Vitamin E.

How (And Why) To Start An LLC

Q. Hey there,

I saw on Instagram that you made Ramshackle Glam an LLC. Yay! My question: Why?

I ask because I run a site, and one of my concerns has been whether I should register it as an LLC. Maybe there are other women who run small sites and businesses who want to know more about the pros and cons of being an LLC versus just a gal with a website.

Thanks!

Where We’re Going Next

So what's this all about?

I don't talk a lot about what Kendrick does on a day-to-day basis. Mostly because while RG certainly includes my family, it's not about my family.

But something - a big thing - just changed, and I (we) decided to share it both because it's going to have a big impact on our day-to-day routine for the foreseeable future...and because it's majorly on my mind. I'm excited. And nervous.

Style

Down The What-I-Wore Wormhole

Every so often, I'll throw on a funny hat or a particularly drapey sweater and Kendrick will double-take and say something like, "Huh. You look like Old You."

Which I think may mean "You look extremely disheveled and a little weird." Because, if you recall, for our second date I basically dressed like a cross between an Olsen twin and a Wookie.

I'm currently in the process of trying to organize my millions and millions of old photos into external hard drives, but it's taking forever...because every time I start scrolling through my files, I come across pictures like this:

My Looks

Onyx And Jade

I don't wear a ton of color. I try to - I aspire to...but I don't. So when I own something like a pair of green ombre jeans, the easiest way for me to ensure that I actually wear them (rather than just taking them out of my closet every so often, thinking how pretty they look, and then putting them right on back) is to pair them with neutral everything-else.

Speaking of the everything-else: the blouse shown here is a new addition to my wardrobe, but that doesn't make any sense - it's so exactly what I want to wear every single day (silky feel, relaxed fit, wide v-neckline) that I really should have owned it already. (Both the blouse and the jeans are from NYDJ; I'm working with them on a collaboration this summer. You can see all my picks for a warm-weather travel wardrobe here.)

The final touches: a gold circlet necklace that I recently rediscovered in my jewelry drawer and have been wearing nearly every day, a pair of flats with bows on the toes, and a touch of tortoiseshell.

Slow-Cooker Orange Chicken

My slow-cooker doesn't see the light of day a whole lot during the summer, partly because the kinds of meals I usually like to use it for (pot roast, ribs, stew) are too heavy for these hot days, but also because we spend a lot of time cooking and eating outdoors. And slow-cookers are an "indoors" kind of thing.

Still, though: when you're pressed for time, there's nothing like letting your kitchen go ahead and cook your dinner for you...and that's what a slow-cooker does.

This recipe is inspired by one I found on Pinterest, and is sort of like a tangy twist on shredded BBQ chicken. I served it over rice (the steam-in-bag kind, because I'm lazy), but it would also be delicious piled onto sandwich rolls for a picnic.

Down By The Water

I grew up three blocks away from the Hudson River, and let me tell you: never once during the years that I lived on West 46th Street did anyone ever suggest that we pop over to the Hudson for a little dip on a hot summer day. Apparently things have changed, though, because yesterday afternoon a few friends and I set up camp at a small beach just a ten-minute drive from my front door, set up camp with sushi, pizza, and a bottle of rose, and...

swam.

I swam in the Hudson River. So did Indy.

It was so cool.
