Journey To The Valley

One of Kendrick's best friends from business school has been staying with us for the past week, and so this weekend we figured we'd show him one of our favorite places (definitely in Northern California, and very possibly in the world). Mill Valley is the town that I visited with Morgan way back when I was about three months pregnant, and we ate pasta on a sunny terrace, and on the drive back of the bridge to Morgan's place I called Kendrick and told him that I was totally on board with him looking for a job in the Bay Area. I think what I said is "We have to live in Mill Valley one day."

As it turned out, we have neither the five trillion dollars (in cash, plz and thanks) required to purchase property in Marin, nor the desire to have Kendrick spend four hours a day commuting to and from the South Bay. Love it for a day trip (and for some maybe-way-in-the-future-post-lottery-winning fantastizing), though.

My Looks

Fairies At The Faire

Alright, we're officially Ren Faire people.

If we hear about one, we are going.

This particular Renaissance Faire - held in downtown San Jose for one weekend only - we heard about last summer from a guy who came to fix the cabinet in our rental (and who called me 'milady'  and actually bowed to me when he left). We considered going, and then realized that would mean wandering around a hot, dusty field one week prior to my due date and thought...eh. Mayhap (see what I did there?!) not the best idea.

Bits & Pieces

So I think it's safe to say we're more or less settled in now. I know where the closest Trader Joe's is; our son is happily enrolled in summer camp; we have an account at the dry cleaner. There are still a bunch of boxes left to be unpacked, but that's mostly because I have to wait for the renovations we're in the middle of to be finished before I have anywhere to put the rest of our things. We even have a couple of playdates with potential new friends on the horizon (always scary, this making-of-new-friends-in-a-new-town thing, but I did it once before, and it turned out pretty great, so).

And so I thought I'd just share a few snapshots that we've taken over the past couple of weeks; just some bits and pieces of what we've been up to.

Noah’s Art

I totally forgot to show you the last stop on our road trip - and I have to, because it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

When we were in Joshua Tree, we stayed at a gorgeous AirBnB way out in the desert, and when we were driving back to the main road we saw this crazy sort of art installation rising out of the sand, and pulled over to discover a full-on outdoor museum of "assemblage sculptures" - basically, pieces created using only found objects ("Noah" refers to Noah Purifoy, the museum's founder).

If you ever make it out that way: go, for real.
