Weekend Snapshots: Beds & Baking Edition

Alright, this is the first thing we have to talk about.

I’ve documented my insomnia issues extensively here, and I’m hoping this little development will make a significant impact, mostly because the not-sleeping thing is compounded by the fact that if Kendrick accidentally wakes me up at some point in the night by virtue of merely existing in close proximity to me: there we go, I’m watching the sun rise.

I have wanted a king-size bed FOR. EVER. And despite the fact that our bedroom is the size of a postage stamp…I don’t care. I don’t care if it fills the room from wall to wall (which it might): I want to float on my personal bed-boat all night long, and I want that bed-boat to have a pillow top.

With purchases like beds and refrigerators – by which I mean “major” purchases, but ones that include things like multi-year interest-free financing and that you use every single day – I think it’s worth it to just suck it up and get the model you actually adore, price be damned (within reason, obviously). I went into Sleepy’s fully intending to get the bed of my dreams, whatever that meant…and once I saw Kendrick literally start to pass out within three seconds of laying down on this one (apparently dads falling asleep in Sleepy’s stores is a thing; I definitely saw more than one snoozing man accompanied by a toddler): sold.

Oh, AND we went for the box spring with under-bed storage, because we are CRAZY LIKE THAT. (No, but seriously: I’m so excited about it.)

The rest of the weekend was about hibernating. Because when it snows – and especially when it snows around Christmastime, when there are things like sparkly lights and fires right there in your house – let’s be honest: the only really worthwhile thing to do is wear big sweaters and eat.

So that’s what we did.

artichoke pasta

I made pasta with fresh artichoke sauce, which was better-tasting than it was pretty…

snow

We ventured out to nearby diners for bagels and lox…

eating a lemon

(And lemons)…

bake cookies

We made batch after batch of cookies for a Sunday-evening cookie party…

roast two chickens

I discovered that (in my oven, at least) cooking two roast chickens side-by-side only takes about 20-30 minutes of additional cooking time (good to know)…

watching tv

And we settled in to watch an all-time favorite…

afternoon nap

…Which in my case really meant taking a Toy Story-length nap by the tree.
