Holy ’50s Furniture Find!

Eee! So I spent Saturday prepping for a few upcoming Minwax segments for Meredith, and one of my tasks was to find a piece of wood furniture suitable for refinishing. I decided to stop by the Salvation Army – my go-to spot for spectacular furniture finds – and within about three seconds I discovered this unbelievable ’50s-era piece (pictured in the SA elevator) for just $20! All I had to do was tighten a few of the screws affixing the legs to the body, and it was good to go.

I love love love love to the love it, and think I’m going to go with a dark cherry stain and gold legs to embrace the vintage feel of the piece.

Saturday also involved lots of wardrobe-sourcing to find tops that work well on-camera:

I hit up Club Monaco (xo, @Kstar78!), Express, Madewell, Coup de Coeur, and Uniqlo (thanks, @jenmoses!), and came home with a bajillion great picks. My favorites: Madewell’s Artisan Tee ($29.50, below far left) and Uniqlo’s assorted-color Light Stretch Cotton U-Neck Short Sleeve Tees ($15.50).

I’m thinking they’ll need to be worn with tanks underneath – they’re a little thin, and I’d prefer not to scandalize anyone while going about my furniture-refinishing business – but otherwise they’re just about perfect. Picture them tucked into jeans and accented with a vintage brown leather belt and some fantastic gold jewelry. Cute, no?!
