Morning In The Zoo

On the big person: Button-down; Cropped Jeans; Leopard Slides

On the little one: Jumping Beans Skater Dress

Here is a sampling of the things that I do every day between the hours of 7:30 and 8:15AM: Make breakfast make coffee clean the kitchen make the beds make more coffee make lunch for my son make lunch for my husband get everyone dressed pack up various backpacks locate jackets locate sneakers locate strollers locate water bottles make coffee to go. I do these things all at the same time, like an octopus (except I’m much less clean than an octopus, because octopuses spend a substantial amount of time in water, and the last time I showered in the morning was in 2011).

TL;DR: I do not have time to argue with anyone about attire selection.

My son has started to get dressed on his own (!), but my daughter is smack in the middle of the “NO I PICK!” “NO I DO IT MYSELLLLLF!” stage. The best way to get her clothed and out the door minus the tantrum:

Pink dresses. (Obviously.)

But not only because of the pink obsession; it’s also because the three minutes she spends getting herself into a dress (see: “NO I DO IT MYSELLLLLLF!”) are three minutes I can spend making (more) coffee. The specific dress she’s wearing here is from the Kohl’s Jumping Beans line, and aaaah it is so cute. (It’s also $12, and most of the other pieces in the line – which has great stuff for boys, too – hover around that price point as well, hooray!)

(Oh, and if you’re curious about what I’m wearing, it’s all from Kohl’s as well. My default look for years has been denim button-down/black skinny jeans/leopard shoes – I’ve just always loved how the denim tones down the leopard, the black dresses up the denim, and the leopard makes it all non-boring. Also how great are those shoes???)
