So remember how I was planning on Airstreaming it across the country, and then switched the plan to driving our Outback out?
Let’s call these plans “a work in progress.”
We’re still driving, but the a few weeks ago we were running errands around town, all four of us, and Kendrick and I were discussing the sheer volume of hours we’ll be spending in a vehicle during this move, and we looked at each other and realized:
The Outback is pretty small.
I mean, it’s not small for, like, daily life…but for four thousand miles or so with four people and four people’s stuff?
Small.
And so we sold Kendrick’s Honda (which we had been planning to sell pre-move anyway), and we found a friend who needs a way to get across the country this summer and is willing to drop off the Outback in California.
We, meanwhile, will be making the journey in THIS:
YESSS.
I have wanted a 4Runner forevvvvvah (it’s the car we were planning on getting once we got to California regardless). I just think it’s super cool, and it makes me feel (kind of) like I’m driving a truck, and I love Toyotas generally, and it has decent mileage and high safety ratings and storage space for miles and a SUN ROOF and there’s a nice lady in the dashboard who answers all my questions and everything about it is great. (And yes, I’m aware of the cons associated with purchasing a car on this side of the country, like the additional expense of gas for a larger vehicle and the whole putting-a-couple-thousand-miles-on-a-new-car thing, but we weighed it out and decided that since we want to keep this car for the very long term, putting some miles on it right away doesn’t really matter to us. And we like that big, big, huge pro of making our life a whole lot more comfortable during the upcoming journey.)
Also it’s exciting.
So: Airstream out. 4Runner in.
Yayyayayayayay. I love it I love it.
P.S. New car = new keychain, obviously.
