All About Those River Towns

Some of my personal favorite spots, if you’d like to take a day trip to the area:

Dobbs Ferry: Go to Sushi Mike’s or The Cookery; both city-level spectacular restaurants that you seriously need to try whether you’re thinking about moving or not.

Irvington: The Farmer’s Market on Wednesday afternoons and evenings (summer only) is a must-see: live music, great produce, a playground for kids, and to-die-for pizza.

Tarrytown: This is where I live, so it’s the spot I know best, obviously. If you’re planning a day trip, my suggestion would be to take the Metronorth so you can get a sense of the commute; Main Street is about a three-minute walk up the hill (and is only three blocks long, so you seriously do not need a car). Ideas for your day: get brunch at Mint, go antiquing along Main Street (don’t miss the Nu Toy Shop), get coffee at Coffee Labs Roasters, and hang out in Neparan Park for awhile if it’s a nice day. Grab some craft beers at The Tapp, then go to Sweetgrass for dinner before getting ice cream at Main Street Sweets.

Ossining: If you have kids, try the Wobble Cafe: there’s a play area where kids can hang out while adults get lunch. You might also want to pop over to Peekskill, which is one of my favorite day trip spots (check out my suggestions here).
