Twelve Dreamy Duvets

Q. So, I need a new duvet cover.  Since I rent, my walls will be white for the foreseeable future. Advice?

A. Bedding is one of my favorite things on the planet to shop for.

I’m not even kidding. It’s just so satisfyingly…high-impact.

I had a bit of a conundrum when we got our crazy-enormous bed and I went out on a hunt for new bedding, though. Because as much as I really, really love our sort of Grecian-floral-whatever wallpaper, I have no idea how to decorate with it other than going for all-white bedding…and you know what doesn’t go with dogs and children? All-white bedding. And then, when I went to Macy’s to pick up a duvet cover, it was sold out of all of the king-sized duvet covers in the entire world except for one, which was blue and thus sort of passable and also thirty dollars for some reason, and so that’s what I bought.

It’s okay. Not great. Which means I’m really looking forward to picking out a new Bed Look once we move, and so I had a lot of fun with this question.

Above, some of my favorite picks, loosely divided into four categories (Bohemian, Colorful, Simple, and Country). Since you have all-white walls, I’d say to let the feel of the room itself dictate your pick – if it’s small, maybe go for a boho vibe and set the mattress on the floor and add a few hanging plants; if it’s open and airy, a simple color scheme could look peaceful and lovely.

(Orrrrr…you could go for a simple white or pale grey duvet and throw an amazing wool camp blanket or two over it. Just an idea.)

P.S. In need of more rental apartment-related advice? Oh, I have so much.
