The Masquerade Makeup

Vivo Masks Occhialino Mask

Speaking of holiday beauty, here’s the look I whipped up for Kendrick’s Winter Formal, which I think works for any holiday party (minus, perhaps, the mask…although that one’s your call). I went heavier than I usually do, with bold eyes and bold lips, because I feel like the holiday season lets you get away with a more dramatic face. Add that to the fact that the formal was actually a masquerade (more shots coming up!), and there you go:

I wore ALL OF THE MAKEUP.

(Getting ready was so much fun.)

The Key Elements:

1. I started with a light liquid foundation on the uneven parts of my skin, then used a cream concealer under my eyes and on any spots (of which there are, sadly, a few lately…my postpartum hormone drop is starting to rear its head). A light dusting of bronzer, and a heavyish application of blush (I love the way a deeper red looks on pale skin during the winter; just be sure to blend well).

2. On eyelids, I dusted loose gold powder up to the brow bone and then blended a dark espresso shadow with gold flecks (the deepest shade in the NARSissist Smokey Eyes Palette) into the crease. I rimmed the lower waterline with black kohl shadow, thickening the line towards the outer third of the eye, and applied black liquid liner to top lids.

3. No mascara; falsies, please! (I have eyelash extensions on at the moment but threw my go-to disposables into the pic just for fun).

4. Next: red lipstick, obviously (you HAVE to own NARS Heat Wave; it’s amazing and looks good on virtually everyone).

5. Final step: Toting eye makeup remover pads in my purse to clean up any mid-evening mishaps (my kohl liner has a tendency to dance its way down my cheeks over the course of the evening) and to get it all off at evening’s end (because major makeup makes already-senstive skin about ten thousand times more so, I’m obsessive about making sure that makeup is completely removed and that my face is moisturized before I get into bed).
