The Urban Uniform

Oh my god, this outfit is perfection.

Here is the problem with hosting fashion events: doing so involves hanging out in stores that you really, really like for a protracted period of time, during which you are doing a lot of looking at various pieces and discussing their wonderfulness.

And then, sometimes, you accidentally shop. (Now, I did manage to restrain myself from buying the trench coat pictured above, but just barely. And restraint sometimes disappears as time goes on, just saying.)

Seriously: that coat is beautiful. Classic and elegant and perfect and just beautiful.

Pictured here are my favorite pieces, all discovered and lusted over on Saturday while I was hosting an event for DKNY’s Urban Uniform collection. The collection is about modern revamps of classic black and white pieces that add a dose of sophistication to virtually any wardrobe; they’re the kinds of items that you reach for again and again and again because they work anywhere, anytime, with anything.

dkny jersey cutout dress

You need to try on this dress. I don’t understand how or why, but it is the most flattering thing ever – I saw women of all different body types try it on (myself included), and it just…works. deny white patent leather sneaker

I’m all about white sneakers lately (go figure; I’ve never been even close to a sneaker person, but there you go), and this quilted patent leather pair is a great mix of sporty and stylish.

white shirt dress

I have a tendency to wear shirts as dresses generally, but this one would make said tendency socially acceptable. It’s also a great, clean, boxy cut that feels very fresh. (Also I’m pretty sure those shoes don’t go on sale until the end of March, but I’m kind of obsessed with them. They’re so weird. And I mean that as a compliment.)

black leather backpack

Oh and this bag. I love the structured shape, love the top handle, love the size.

And surprise: it’s also a backpack. (I KNOW.) Talk about your urban essential.
