Weekend Snapshots: Winter Market And Mama Birthday

The original plan this weekend was to hit up our town’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade…

But then I got a text from my next-door neighbor alerting me to the fact that Stone Barns – the amazing organic farm and agricultural education center that we are incredibly, incredibly lucky to live five minutes away from – was holding a Winter Market.

Done.

(If you ever have the chance to make it up to the Hudson Valley, really please go: even if there’s no market at the moment you can buy things like eggs, cheese, and house-made soaps from the on-site cafe and tour the grounds, and there are always fun events taking place.)

We learned about echoes in the Rockefeller Reading Room, bought Stone Barns Scrapple (oh my god, I can’t wait to make this next weekend; it’s basically a mash-up of pork scraps all held together with cornmeal and sounds horrifying, but is actually completely amazing all sliced up and fried in butter), and plopped down in the courtyard to enjoy the sun and eat cheddar cheese sandwiches (me) and freak out about dogs a bit (my child).

I also got the chance to meet recent Westchester expat and RG reader Amanda on our way out to the car – hi, Amanda!

Then it was back to our place to celebrate my mom’s birthday with wine, brownies…

A little couch-top carousing with Grandpa (I have so turned into the “NO RUNNING ON THE COUCH” parent)…

And dinner at the Tarry Tavern, home of The Best Iceberg Wedge In The World.

Happy birthday, Mama! Love you.
