Barbounia / Cocktail Inspiration

The Happy Hour appetizers at Barbounia, where I met Kim yesterday evening, are pretty spectacular: $3.50 gets you things like roasted eggplant, hummus, and that tzatziki up there, which is served with a warm, garlicky (and foot-long) roll.

On the cocktails menu, I spotted something called a “Sappho” that I didn’t end up ordering…but that I think I’ll be making a version of in the near future. Here’s my interpretation:

SAPPHO

In a shaker, muddle together some red grapes and blueberries with a generous squeeze of lemon. Fill shaker with ice and pour over a 3-count of vodka. Shake vigorously, then pour contents (including ice) into a tall glass and top with red wine; stir lightly to combine.

(Alternatively, you could add more vodka – about a 5-count – strain out the ice, and pour into a martini glass before topping with red wine.)

Garnish with a spear of frozen grapes.

(FYI, Barbounia also has a $15 “Nonstop Champagne Brunch.”)

Oh, and on the way back uptown?

This happened. (That’s a missing heel on my boot.) So, fueled by tzatziki, I hopped the last two blocks home.
