Interview with MyFashionPlate.com

About the Look:
Here, I’m wearing a 10 year old DKNY Pure sweater that pretty much encapsulates my idea of “sexy,” my favorite Gap hat and ABS “Carrie” jeans. I feel more glamorous and beautiful when I’m dressed like this than I do all gussied up on the way to an event; I think nothing’s prettier than being comfortable.

Q: How do you maximize your wardrobe?

A: One of my favorite wardrobe-maximizers is a Clothing Swap Party. I recently went to my first one, and came home with two enormous bags filled with items that completely rejuvenated my closet.

Q: Where do you go to get the hottest trends for less?

A: I mix thrift-shop finds (I love the huge Salvation Army on 46th Street) with classics from places like the Gap.

Q: Do you have any DIY fashion tips or tricks?

A: I love me some short skirts, and I’m constantly whacking off the bottom few inches of knee-length dresses that I find in vintage stores to make them look more up-to-date. I don’t worry about hemming; I think an unfinished edge can look fab if you add some spectacular jewelry to fancy up the outfit.

Q: What inspires your look?

A: A friend once described my look as “partially undressed” – I love wearing sweaters that are so huge that they fall off your shoulder, paired with interesting tights or inappropriately short skirts and sky-high heels. To me, comfort is key – you’ll rarely see me wearing anything tight or constricting, but when you’re wearing slightly disheveled-looking outfits it’s important to add glamorous elements (a great hairdo, a gorgeous scarf or dramatic jewelry) so that you don’t look like you just rolled out of bed.

Q: What is one key item you believe everyone should have in their wardrobe?

A: An unbelievable pair of platforms in a bold color.
