Wedding Money-Saver / Hors d’Oeuvres

A totally lovely combo: pear, bacon, and marscapone from Red Table Catering.

One of the aspects of our wedding that I had the most fun planning was the hors d’oeuvre menu. I had some standbys (sushi bar, chicken skewers), but my favorites were peaches wrapped in prosciutto and tiny cups of lobster bisque (the wedding was held in Maine).

If you’re looking to really save money on your wedding, consider hosting a hors d’oeuvres-only reception. Some tips:

– Make sure it’s nowhere near dinnertime, so guests don’t expect a sit-down meal.

– Announce that you will be serving “cocktails and canapes” (or something to that effect) on your invitation so that your guests can plan accordingly.

– Make sure you serve a few heartier hors d’oeuvres (e.g. mini meatballs, sliders, and crab cakes).
