Yet another fascinating thing I learned while in Ohio for Thanksgiving: there is apparently a website that provides kids with ringtones outside the audible range of hearing for most people over the age of 30 (the eardrum and inner ear become less active as you age, making it more difficult to hear high-frequency sounds). This means that you can receive phone calls in class without teachers knowing. Not that I endorse this kind of behavior.
Anyway, Kendrick’s family and I played with this site a bit, and it’s CRAZY: people under 30 literally plugged their ears from the sound while the “grown-ups” looked around in confusion: “What? What? I don’t hear it!”
UPDATE: A reader just emailed me to say that the service is $19.99/month. I didn’t know that – I just played around with the free downloads on the home page. I wouldn’t recommend actually purchasing the service…just thought it was fun to play with 🙂 Also, I’m not affiliated with this site in any way at all.
