2-Minute Summery Smoky Eye

What makes a summery smoky eye different from a wintry smoky eye, you ask? It's softer, more golden, with no harsh lines...so soft, in fact, that it looks just as pretty in the daytime as it does at night. Click through for video tutorial.

Dr. Jart+ Beauty Balm

A sample of Dr. Jart+ Beauty Balm recently came my way courtesy of Casey (if you live in NYC, her restaurant reviews are the best), and it's phenomenal stuff, so I have to tell you about it. I'm big on tinted moisturizer all year 'round - I also like Laura Mercier and Fusion Beauty - and this is tinted moisturizer taken to the next level: it moisturizes your skin and protects it with SPF 45 sunscreen, while simultaneously including anti-aging properties and subtle color that brightens and evens out your skin tone. So in theory, it's literally the only (daytime) skincare product you need. (The line also has other products that contain water-repelling ingredients, varying levels of sunscreen, and nighttime balancing elements.)

I was mildly skeptical about it at first, because I feel like anything that purports to do too much probably won't do any of its jobs particularly well, but: wrong. I can't really speak for the anti-aging properties yet, having only used it for a handful of days, but the texture is gorgeous and absolutely eliminates the need for sunscreen and moisturizer, and there's an immediate and noticeable difference in skin tone thanks to the tint - I used nothing else at all on my face, save for concealer on any egregious spots.

TL;DR version: if you're looking to whittle down your skincare program, this is a perfect One Stop Shop.

At-Home Keratin Alternatives

Q. Hi Jordan,

You've written in the past about the perks of Keratin treatments. However, I've checked at the salons here in Portland, OR, and since my hair is halfway down my back, it's going to cost me a small fortune to get that done. I'm in my third year of grad school, broke, and have come to accept that's not an option.

I was wondering if you knew of any options for at-home treatments?  I've been looking but have no idea what's what, and which stuff is legit and not a rip-off.

Sincerely,

Votre Vu Bebe Duette

You know how I love my Votre Vu Duette? The almond-scented hand cream (that smells like COOKIES) with lip balm and mini mirror built into the lid?

This is even better than that.

The newest addition to the fab Votre Vu line, the Bebe Duette ($39.50) makes the whole package just a little bit smaller and more portable, and includes two hand cream/lip balm duos: one with clear, coconut-scented balm, and one with just a hint of raspberry color. One for the purse; one for the desk; done.

Perfume Obsession / MCMC Fragrances

At the StyleList shoot last week, I came across MCMC perfume oils ($45 for 9ml) in Bird, a clothing and accessories boutique on Smith Street.

All of them are beautiful, but I'm obsessed with Noble, a blend of jasmine, vetiver and chai tea. It's sexy and mysterious without being heavy in the slightest, and completely unlike anything I've ever come across. I rolled a little onto my wrist...which then stayed glued to my nose for the remainder of the day.

I'm also dying to try Maine (they didn't have a sample in the store), a musky scent with hints of Bulgarian rose, sage, and French seaweed.

Things Mom Loves (That I Love Too)

I stopped by my parents' place yesterday evening, and my mom immediately pulled me into the bathroom to paint my face with some new products she's fallen in love with. And since Mom knows best, of course they were wonderful, and I now love them too.

Per-fekt Eye Perfection Gel: A gorgeously textured gel-mousse that airbrushes the area under the eyes, simultaneously reducing puffiness with cooling and anti-inflammatory ingredients while adding a hint of light-reflecting, brightening color. Basically, it's eye cream + concealer in one incredible-feeling package.
