Q. Hi Jordan -
How are you? I wanted to ask something kind of random about your upper ear piercing. 1) How much did it hurt? 2) Will it not heal correctly if I sleep on the side of my head?
Thanks!
Allison

Q. Is there a piercing parlor in the city or surrounding area you'd recommend, or a place where I can find a stud like yours?
A. Unfortunately I don't know of any great places in Westchester - the one I went to in Tarrytown was eh; all they had were basic silver hoops with little balls on them. I do know of a tattoo parlor in the city, Addiction NYC, that does excellent work - my mom, Kendrick and I all have tattoos from there - so presumably they're good with piercings as well?
I love cartilage piercings. I love all types of ear piercings, in fact. Alas, my body does not love them, and lets me know this by summarily rejecting 80% of the pieces of metal that I attempt to insert in it. This obviously doesn't mean I'm giving up on the concept - I plan to go in for a couple of new piercing attempts in the fall - but I have recently discovered the beauty of no-pierce ear cuffs, and feel, for the time being, somewhat sated in the body-modification department.
me + sea + my mama tee
Hatch created this MAMA tee to support Every Mom Counts' efforts to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every woman, everywhere (100% of net proceeds goes to the cause). If you need another excuse to pick one up, it also happens to fit like a dream. And has POCKETS. (It's their signature bateau top, and so it also comes without the lettering if you don't want to advertise your maternal status - and FYI, even though Hatch is technically a maternity company, this top one thousand percent works for the non-pregnant.)
Sooooo it turns out Dapper + Crown makes what might be the cutest little girl's dress I've ever seen (please get the yellow).
You know what my daughter did on Friday? She tried to take down two of the Willis sisters (Scout and Tallulah, specifically). And she very nearly succeeded.
Here's what happened.
We drove down to LA for a couple of days to see my friend who just had a baby, and to touch base with a few people who I love and haven't seen in ages. I had an errand to run over on Melrose and found myself stopping into Body Electric Tattoo "just to say hi" (#famouslastwords). And then all of a sudden I was getting not just one piercing, but three (plus replacements for two existing holes) - more on that in a minute - and as I was leaving I found myself standing at the top of a verrrrrry steep, verrrrrry long set of stairs right next to Scout and Tallulah, because when you're in Hollywood and find yourself standing next to two people, there is a very good chance that they are related to Demi Moore.

You may have noticed that I no longer have a nose ring. It's because of the show I was filming over the summer - the network called on Day 1 and said "errmmmmmmm can she lose the nose ring please?" And unfortunately the answer was "well...no." Because when that request was made it was made via cell phone while I was in the middle of nowhere. And I was set to be on camera about five seconds later. And the only way to take out one of those continuous rings is to use pliers. My feeling was that taking pliers to my face moments before shooting a network television show had the potential to create less-than-desirable results, and so I did something I almost never do: I said "Sorry, but no way."
And then, just before I headed back to St. Louis for the second time, I went ahead and took it out per the network's request...which means that in the final cut, I have the nose ring in some shots and not in others. So when (one day in the far-distant future, because TV is weird like that) you see this thing, please make sure to watch it with a beer in hand and drink every time you spot my nose ring. (Is it terrible that I think it would be amazing to have my very own drinking game?)
…No? (Spotted on the Instagram feed for Body Electric, the place where Francesca and I went last time I was in L.A.)
(Some advice on cartilage piercings here and pretty little extra-earring suggestions here.)
You may have noticed I'm very into extra ear piercings lately. I first got a whole bunch when I was in high school, then let them close up…and then re-pierced them all over the last year or so. Right now, I have three holes in my left ear, two holes in my right, and a cartilage piercing on my upper left (plus a belly-button piercing from 1996 that's persistently uninterested in closing up despite the fact that I haven't had anything in it in a good decade).
Love them. Want more. Next up (after the baby arrives, and next time I get a chance to visit Los Angeles): a tiny stud in my tragus (which is much less pornographic than it sounds; it's the little area that projects out in front of your ear canal) and a couple more hoops in each ear. I'll probably also throw another tattoo or two on there, just for fun (and because when your family expands seems like a good time to add some commemoration in ink form).
Why do I love these extra ear piercings so much? Because I think that if you choose the right earrings for your extra piercings, they're elegant while still being (just a little bit) unexpected. What I wear are super-small, super-slim continuous (i.e. no ball closure) gold hoops that I had custom-made at Body Electric in Los Angeles - if you give them a call and describe what you want, you can have them shipped to you, but if you'd like to swap yours out every so often (or just wear tiny, adorable earrings in your regular holes), oh my goodness are there ever some cute options out there.
