8 Products I’m Still Obsessed With One Year Later

I wouldn’t call myself a “beauty blogger,” per se, but I’ve certainly written about beauty (treatments, techniques, procedures, products, and so on) a lot over the years, including two entire YouTube shows produced by Allure (#memories).

What this means: I’ve tried out a lot of products – far more, I’d guess, than your average non-blogging bear. And I’ve liked – even loved – a lot of them. But like any human being with non-abnormal quantities of time to spend on things like makeup and skincare, there are only so many new discoveries that I actually continue using over the long-term (and on my own dime).

These are the discoveries that fully disrupted my go-to routine in the past year or so, and that I am no longer ever, ever without.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

This foundation singlehandedly changed my entire approach to makeup.

I’d been using the same matte powder foundation since COLLEGE – which is patently ridiculous, since your skin changes as you age, and the products that you put on it should change, too – but I was just…wedded to it. And then I tried Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation, and it was like Oprah was standing next to me screaming “A-HA!” in my ear.

I put it on with my fingertips (like moisturizer) if I’m in a hurry and with a brush if I’ve got a little more time, and I swear to you: it transforms my skin, making it not just smooth and even, but positively glowy.

quip Toothbrush

I discovered quip via a paid partnership last spring…but the second the partnership ended I went and signed myself up for a subscription, becauseI have learned what it is like to not have neon cartoon animal toothbrushes decorating my bathroom countertop, and now there is no going back.

These electric toothbrushes are just straight-up gorgeous-looking, and they streamline not only the look of your bathroom, but your approach to toothbrushing, with 30-second interval pulses to remind you to move to the next section, gentle vibration that won’t mess with your gums, and a delivery service that’ll replenish your brush head and battery every three months, making excellent oral care virtually brainless (as it should be).

Perfect Formula Pink Gel Nail Polish

You know how you’re always looking for the perfect lip gloss – one that makes your lips look rosy and shiny, but not overly “done”? This is the nail polish equivalent of that lip gloss. It just makes your nails look instantly healthy and pretty – and lasts forever and fortifies your nails while it’s on, as a bonus.

Alllll The Oils

I’ve been writing about my obsession with oils for a few years now, but over the past year I’ve pared down my collection to focus on just the basics…because really: the basics are all you need. I use Sky Organics’ Jojoba Oil, Sky Organic’s Vitamin E Oil, and Valentia’s Frankincense Oil practically every day of my life – in the bath, on my face and body, on my hair, on my nail beds…everywhere.

5/8

U-Shaped Bobby Pins

I am literally – and I do mean literally – never without a few of these, and I sprinkle them everywhere I go like breadcrumbs (my friends have said they find them in their houses for weeks after I’ve visited).

Why? Because they are what make my go-to hairstyle possible.

6/8

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat 540 Rouge Perfume

People ask me what scent I’m wearing all the time, and I’m sure they think I’m lying when I say “I have no idea what it’s called,” but I’m not. Or…OK, maybe it’d be more accurate to say that I have no idea how to pronounce it, because when pressed I end up saying “…Mason Francis Kardashian?” and that’s weird, so usually people just let it go.

I found this completely random perfume (which smells simultaneously lightly sweet and woodsy – I love the feminine/masculine balance of it) at a completely random little drugstore in New York City a couple of Christmases ago, and begged Kendrick for it, and it’s been my go-to ever since. (I especially love the travel version that I linked out to – it comes with a beautiful gold carrying case and 5 vials of perfume.)

7/8

Narsissist Eyeshadow Palette

NARS eyeshadows are my faves, so I’ve tried a lot of their palettes over the years, but I especially adore this one for its mix of mattes and sparkly formulas. But my favorite part is the fact that it includes both go-tos and a few more out-of-the-box colors that are still completely wearable. I found that I started out using just the more obvious shades and ignoring the rest…but over time, as the more neutral shades wore down, I started experimenting with the reddish and peachy shadows, and loved the effect.

Foot Microplane

And finally…my foot microplane, as I affectionately call it. (I think it’s technically called a foot rasp, since microplanes are for, like, cheese and dark chocolate. But whatever.)

I have absolutely terrifying feet. And yes, I’ve tried the Baby Feet thing. Yes, I’ve tried wearing Vaseline and socks to bed. I’ve tried EVERYTHING.

This is the thing that works. And, as a bonus, it might be the most satisfying beauty procedure you ever try in your life. (So. Fun.)
