10 Products That You Need To Kick Off Summer 2017

Goals,” by Gray Malin

My son graduated from pre-K yesterday, and lets please not discuss that because another thing that happened yesterday was that he got embarrassed when I kissed him in front of his friends, and now I need to cry. Instead, let’s focus on the bright side: Summer vacation!

Now, if you’re a stay-at-home or work-at-home parent, you know that what “summer vacation” means is precisely the opposite of what it means to your children, because what it means is they’re right there next to you. Like, all the time. Needing things. If you’re a work-at-an-office parent, you know that it means either extra daycare/nanny hours or camp, which means hoooooooly crap so much money.

It also, very fortunately, means unicorn floats. Unicorn floats make everything worth it.

1/10

This Tinted Sunscreen

I’ve tried lots of tinted sunscreens over the years, and Neova’s is by far my favorite – it’s got just enough coverage to make your skin look even, but is completely weightless (we’re talking zero residue). And it has SPF 40, so you can feel virtuous while enjoying all that lovely even skin of yours.

2/10

This Gigantic Beach Blanket

ban.do’s Giant Watermelon Beach Blanket is HUGE. Like, enormous. It will fit all of your friends, with room left over for a cooler full of Coronas…which means you should probably all just kick in ten bucks and own it collectively, no? (I’m dying to own this.)

3/10

This Glorious Self-Tanner

I’ve been a fan of James Read self-tanner for a couple of years now, and the Coconut Melting Tanning Balm throws in another of my favorite products. I already slather myself in coconut oil every night – so if I can get all golden at the same time, that feels like a double win.

4/10

This Completely Unnecessary (But Wonderful) Cooling Stick

Do you *need* a stick toner packed with cucumber and aloe to cool, calm, and de-puff your skin after a day at the beach? Nope; you could probably throw some cucumber slices on your eyes, apply a little drugstore aloe, and call it a day. But doesn’t it sound so nice?

5/10

These Cork Platform Sandals

Cork flatforms and wedges are everywhere this summer, and these are simple, perfect, and just over fifty bucks.

6/10

This Unicorn Pool Float

2016 was terrible, but it was also the summer of the giant pink flamingo. Impossibly, 2017 is much, much worse…but at least we get unicorn floats.

7/10

These Shatterproof Tumblers

These are technically for kids, but you’ll want to call them into action for your frosé as well. (And at $1.49 each, you can just go ahead and get one for everyone.)

(I also love this sweet, retro version…and this one, because it has a bear wearing a hat on it.)

8/10

This Glam Weekender Bag

Sort of like owning a couch that nobody else owned before you or buying flaxseed, having a gorgeous weekender bag feels, to me, like a sign of actual adulthood.

…Just me?

Regardless, I think we can all agree that this Figue tote is spectacular.

9/10

This "Sombrilla"

Essentially a hybrid between a tent and an umbrella, this thing (which, don’t worry, I had never heard of before either) can go to the beach, the woods, or the backyard, and provides better coverage than an umbrella – it can be easily adjusted over the course of the day as the sun moves – without being as stifling as a tent.

(It’s also cool-looking.)

10/10

These Red Denim Cutoffs

Sort of a random add to this list, but whatever: I like these a whole lot.
