Ramshackle Glam’s Top 10 Ikea Finds: Spring 2017

First things first: my children have now joined the ranks of People Who Have Been Traumatized by the Swamp Scene in The Neverending Story.

The horse dies. Of sadness. (Artax noooooooo!)

On the positive side, they were traumatized while sitting in what might be the coolest kids’ chairs ever created. Technically these things are called LÖMSKes, but we call them Space Eggs. We didn’t intend to come home from our Sunday Ikea trip with Space Eggs, but come on: you would have bought them, too.

So clearly the Space Eggs take the number one spot on my list of Top Ikea Finds (a previous list is here, if you’d like to check it out). But man there’s a lot of fun stuff there. Below, some more great pieces I spotted both during my weekend adventure and during a (seriously exhaustive) online shopping trip.

JASSA Rug

This jute rug is easy-to-clean and works kiiiiinda anywhere – it’s a nice way to add some texture and interest to a space without being too precious (because I’ve owned rugs like this, and they can take a beating). It’d also make a great layering piece on top of a larger rug – but really, for $59 you can afford to experiment.

2/10

TOBIAS Chair (in Pink!)

I’ve written before about just how much I love these chairs – we used to use these as dining room chairs in our East Coast house, and they’re great-looking, easy to put together, and durable (full review is here). And now? THEY COME IN PINK. (OK, technically the color is called “lilac,” but whatever: I say it’s pink, because that makes me love them even more.)

3/10

RANDERUP Rug

I think this is the cutest rug for a kid’s room – such a fun color palette, and it’s stain resistant because it’s made of synthetic fibers (and it’s only $49).

4/10

JANSJÖ Clamp-On LED Spotlight

This may not look like the most exciting purchase, but it just solved a lighting conundrum we have, wherein our son’s bunk bed has nowhere to put a light either on top or in the play area below. We could do shelving, sure…or we could pick up a couple of these cool-looking clip on LED lights and let him move them around at will (his favorite place to use his at present is while fully-ensconced in the Space Egg with a book). Just a really practical, good buy.

5/10

ANVÄNDBAR Hanging Tray

Cool-looking hanging planters are surprisingly hard to find – I recently went on a tear around outdoor decor stores around our area, and ended up just making one myself. I wish I had known about this rack, though, because not only is it super cute, it can be used either for smaller plants (herbs and such), or for spices you want to keep close at hand. Love that idea.

6/10

GRÖNADAL Rocking Chair

Look at this cuteness. I want to sit on a porch in this rocking chair and drink mint juleps all summer long.

7/10

MÖRBYLÅNGA Dining Table

This is so the kind of table you’d find at Restoration Hardware for three thousand dollars. Except it’s from Ikea, so it’s $699. Love the simple farmhouse feel paired with the industrial-style square legs (it’s actually almost exactly like our dining room table, except the legs on ours are iron).

8/10

LÅNGHOLMEN Outdoor Umbrella

Speaking of things that look like they’re from Restoration Hardware but cost hundreds – or even thousands – of dollars less: this. Our outdoor umbrella was killed by last month’s storm, and I think I may need to pick up one of these as a replacement. Super streamlined and pretty.

9/10

ÄPPLARÖ Outdoor Collection

I love the substantial – but non-clunky – feel of all of the pieces in this outdoor furniture collection – and especially that corner chair above – you can even push two together and make a super-cute (and unique-looking) settee.

10/10

FRASERA Whiskey Glass

I know these don’t look especially exciting. But I picked one up when I was wandering around Ikea on Sunday, and it’s wayyyy better than it looks in the photo – nicely weighted and the perfect size for water or wine. (Technically it’s for whiskey, but I like wine, so there you go.)
