2016 Kids’ Gift Guide (Or: What I’m Getting For My Kids)

Spending today getting the house nice and Christmassy.

P.S. If you, like us, are faux-tree people, pleeeeeease trust me and buy this candle.

Hi! In lieu of an actual “kid’s gift guide,” this year I thought I’d just go ahead and tell you what I’m getting for my kids, mostly because I am at this very moment doing my own Black Friday shopping (via Amazon Prime, because this means I don’t have to brush my hair). (And okay, also because I meant to write this last night but put my son to bed around 8:30PM and ended up passing out next to him, and apparently entered a tryptophan-induced coma state, because I didn’t wake up for TWELVE HOURS.)

wellie wishers by american girl dolls

For Goldie

This is going to be The Big Santa Present: a “Wellie Wisher” doll (pictured above). They’re basically a miniature subset of the classic American Girls dolls, and are smaller and less expensive, but (I think) equally adorable. Another American Girl suggestion if you don’t want to spend full-size American Girl money: the Bitty Baby dolls, which you can customize to look like your own child. Aw.

A HugFun Bunny Rabbit Sleeping Bag (also available in Leopard, Elephant, Puppy, etc). Indy has Tauntan, and now Goldie will have her own ludicrously large (and soft) creature/bag to drag around with her everywhere she goes.

Elsa and Ana Backpack. FINE. Fiiiiiiiiine. I will purchase an Elsa and Ana something, because every time she sees them she has a little joy-explosion. But I won’t like it.

President and Vice-President Barbie. I’m still kind of back-and-forth on the whole concept of Barbies, but this one is…okay, so it’s a little depressing. But it won’t be to her, and I want her to have it.

the i que robot intelligent interactive gift for kids

For Indy

This is actually what my mom is getting him, but I wanted to show it to you because it’s so cool. The I-QUE Robot is an interactive, intelligent robot that talks back to you and apparently can understand almost anything you say. Cooooool.

You’re going to judge me, but let me start by saying that I did not name these toys. First up is Indy’s dream item: the Lord Of Skull Spiders Bionicle. Bionicles are sort of creepy-creature LEGO sets, and are actually really great for helping kids learn to follow (honestly pretty complicated) building instructions. (Other Bionicles in the line include the Skull Slicer, the Skull Basher, and the Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder, and I told you that you were going to judge me.)

Mavis Beacon Keyboarding Kidz. Remember Mavis Beacon?!?! This computer program was how I learned to type, and I adored it, and they have an updated kid-friendly version available. Indy is super into computer games and apparently, like all children, has a bizarrely intuitive ability to use Apple products, so I thought he’d have fun learning how to make his way around a keyboard.

Captain America Scope Vision Mask. I don’t really understand what this does (shoot lasers…from your eye? …lets you see…through things?) or why he’s so obsessed with it, but he said that’s what he wants Santa to bring him, and so there you go.

Anyone else have any especially cool gift suggestions for the toddler/small child set that you’d be willing to share?? I never really look at those “what all the kids want this year” lists (although I have to assume that I-QUE robot thing is on them), so I have no idea what this season’s Furby is.
