Links & Love & Stuff

:) I’m off to NYC this morning (yes, again; this time for a video shoot and a meeting with our book marketing team). Coming with me: the Lo & Sons Pearl Crossbody (which I’ve written about before; you can see my video of the ridiculous amount of stuff you can fit inside this thing here), Who What Wear’s The Career Code (which just hit stores yesterday), and my walking shoes.

:) Every time I wear something like this Kendrick’s eyes get very big. “But…but…why would you want to look like you’re shaped like that?” (Meaning like a pickle with a pudgy little center.) I cannot answer this question, but do not care to. Because one cannot always put true love into words.

:) This whole outfit feels very Dirty Dancing. I dig it.

:) Yes I would like to smell like sea salt and driftwood please. (I’m not kidding. This perfume sounds like the most amazing scent ever, and I think they have a Jo Malone at the airport; totally going.)

:) Did you notice my new “Favorites” widget? (It’s been there since my redesign; it’s about a third of the way down the home page.) I change it every Monday, so make sure to check it weekly for new picks. My absolute favorite piece listed there this week:  these gold sandals. They’re just perfect.

:) I want to eat a raindrop cake right now. Or drink it. Or something. (The Raindrop Cake Is Coming To America, via HuffPo.)

:) I grew up on the back of the motorcycle; my parents first put me on one (in a backpack-thing and wearing a very tiny helmet) at around 3 months old. Because I was taught motorcycle safety and how to ride from a (kind of crazily) young age, it never felt especially dangerous – to the contrary, it was awesome getting to ride all over the country first in that backpack, then tucked in between my parents, then on the back of one bike or another, and then finally on my own (not to mention the fact that I felt extremely cool pulling up to high school on my Suzuki Savage). And yet I would never, ever put my children on the back of a motorcycle. Ugh, moral quandary. (Mom Defends Daughter Riding Motorcycle In Viral Facebook Post, via Today.)

:) Oh my god dying laughing. (Toddler Barfs In Car, Dad Freaks, Epic Text Message Exchange Ensues, via ScaryMommy.)

:) SUCH a good jumpsuit for the office.

:) “Let’s get real. When we fret about excess screen time as bad parenting, what we’re really talking about is bad mothering. After all, mothers still do more than three times as much routine child care as fathers do, and almost four times as much solo care…When we worry that parents are shirking their duties by relying on an electronic babysitter, we’re really worrying that mothers are putting their own needs alongside, or even ahead of, their kids’ needs.” Thisity this this this. (Kids’ Screen Time Is A Feminist Issue, via Jstor.)

:) Big thanks to Heidi for including me in this lovely piece (and in such stellar company)! (Why Bloggers Can Be Great Role Models, via Wishes & Reality.)

Buji Baja beach throws and cat baby booties

:) I am basically a walking advertisement for those fluffy cat baby booties (seriously, we cannot go ten feet without someone stopping me to ask me where I got them. The answer is Emu Australia. And yes, they are the cutest things EVER). Also pictured: Buji Baja Beach Throws, Hat Attack Panama Hat, MCMC Fragrances Maui Roll-On Oil and a sunscreen-inclusive face oil that I’m obsessed with.

:) Love these beautiful watercolors of flowers by Brooklyn artist Kate Murphy, especially to brighten up a nursery or office space (via Etsy).

:) Got a dad in your life who’s of the camping sort? For Father’s Day, give him this blanket and let him feel like he’s snuggling a baby koala while he falls asleep under the stars.

:) Just ordered this industrial-style pendant from Lulu & Georgia because a) our kitchen light is very 1970s-hospital-ish…and not in, like, a cool retro way; in a terrible way, and b) I think Kendrick will really like it. Photos to come, assuming I figure out how to swap out a light fixture without electrocuting myself.

:) Fascinating piece on a high-profile app that claims to create “baby geniuses” – and in the meantime preys on every parental insecurity ever. (“We Will Literally Predict Their Life Outcomes,” via BackChannel.)

:) See my new header image?! (You can only see it if you’re on the home page.) I got a bunch of so-so feedback about the banner image I put up during the redesign, and made adjustments accordingly (and on that note, please always feel free to pass on feedback; I love hearing what you have to say). I’m so excited about the new look; it feels so much cleaner and fresher…and helloooo family of four reference. Big thanks to artist Laura Ricciardi – whose work you can find on glam | camp and on her own site – for helping me out with this.

:) Facebook’s advertising department realllllly thinks I want to own these. They are kind of right, although I know better than to buy them.

Crate and Barrel two-piece lounge sectional couch

:) Saturday morning cartoon time is the best time. And that is the best couch. Ever. (It’s this one from Crate & Barrel, if you feel like owning a thing that is literally so comfortable that you will actually initiate fights with your spouse so as to have a reason to go sleep on it.)
