Pioneertown

First, we need to have a very serious discussion about those boots, because while they look a tiny bit like I wrapped Lucy around my feet, they also look like EVERY BOOT FANTASY I HAVE EVER HAD.

Look. At. Them. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee.

When I tried them on and discovered that they were a full size too small, I strongly considered not caring and buying them anyway…but had a rare flash of rational thought and realized that I would likely never actually leave the house wearing boots that felt like tiny vises. Which means that they are still there, and if you are a size 7 a) I’m jealous and b) you should probably hop on out to the desert (or, you know, call the store) and pick them up.

(Tear.)

I found them in Pioneertown – a town located right outside the Joshua Tree National Park that was created as an Old West movie set during the 1940s (Roy Rogers and Dick Curtis were among the initial investors). The place is as cool as it sounds like it’d be: we spent Sunday night hanging out at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace – a restaurant/saloon/nightclub with surprisingly delicious steak and a live band – and then returned the next afternoon to check out The Cactus Mart (where you find cactuses and succulents at way better prices than you would in the city) and The End, a vintage clothing shop run by a former Los Angeles costume designer. (I bought a puffy keychain as a consolation prize for the sadly undersized boots, but Francesca went home with a $25 Alexander Wang tube top.)

Also worth a visit if you’re ever in the area:

(I am wearing pants here, I promise. They are just small ones. It was hot.)

Below, some fuzzy boot finds that don’t quiiiiite approach the glory of the vintage pair I found at The End…but they’re close.
