We Want To See Your Badass Art!

It’s the most wonderful caaaarb of the yearrrr.

(Seriously this sweatshirt is my everything.)

It’s been about a month and a half since Erin and I opened glam | camp‘s metaphorical doors, and it’s going…surprisingly well, actually. E-commerce, as I was told by virtually everyone who I mentioned the shop to, is a notoriously hard (verging-on-impossible) arena to break into, mostly because there’s just so much stuff out there on the Internet to buy – and so many options for where to buy it – that in order for someone to decide to buy *your* product on *your* site a whole lot of pieces have to fall into place.

So it’s been a learning process for us – seeing which products visitors respond to the most, and constantly reworking the offerings while we refine what, exactly, it is that we’re trying to do. What I had hoped to see was a slow build in traffic and sales as we brought on new products, figured out what people were interested in, and worked to gain consumer trust (because if you’re putting your credit card information into a website, you better feel pretty confident about where those numbers are going), and that’s pretty much what’s been going on. Some weeks are good; some weeks aren’t. But either way, what we’re trying to do is evolve in a way that makes sense both for the shop, and for us.

I think when it comes down to it, what we’re both most interested in is supporting women who are trying to do their own thing in the world. Erin and I are both new (or, in my case, newish) mothers who have been working (and sometimes struggling) to find ways to balance parenting with career in a world that doesn’t always make that an especially easy thing to do for women, and over the years I’ve always been so excited by the emails and comments I get from those of you who are doing the same – looking for ways to explore your passions and put your work out there while still being present for your families. We know how hard this is. We know how often it feels impossible, like you’re falling short on one side or the other. We want to create a space that celebrates the odd and the wonderful stuff of life; offer products that are beautiful and funny and offbeat and have a sense of humor.

All that said: if any of you are in the business of creating jewelry, art, baby products, or things that are just plain weird (because we love things that are just plain weird, as evidenced by this necklace), we want to see your stuff. We’re in the process of expanding the range of in-house glam | camp items over the next few weeks, but we would also like to include the work of a few additional outside vendors. So if you have a product you might be interested in putting on glam | camp (or know someone who does), send us an email (jordan@ramshackleglam.com; eringoosecamp@gmail.com), and we can see if it’s a good fit and talk details.

(If I’ve learned anything from the years that I’ve been interacting with readers here, it’s that you’re kind of geniuses, so I’m super excited to see what you have up your sleeves.)
