The Easy Decor Trick You Didn’t Know

…Or at least I didn’t know it until I read this post. It’s something that I was doing before at least semi-intuitively, but consciously paying attention to this tiny fix is such an easy way to instantly give a room a more polished feel.

Basically, forget about centering art on a wall, and pay more attention to orienting it around the furniture. (This doesn’t necessarily mean always placing it dead center above a major piece of furniture – although it could – but rather just thinking about the art as it relates to the way you’ve arranged the pieces in your room.)

Por ejemplo:

I decided to reclaim my beloved vintage Coca-Cola sign (a hand-me-down from my parents) from my son’s bedroom and put it in our dining room, but rather than center it on the wall I placed it so that its center is where the center of our future dining table will be (the one we have now is just WAY too small for the space and for our life, generally) will be. (I’ll post a better shot when the dining room is finished.)

And in our bedroom, rather than placing the deer head in the center of the wall I created a sort of still life in one corner with the head, a TJ Maxx lamp, a skull-shaped vodka bottle that we repurposed as a water carafe, and a yucca tree. (Speaking of yucca trees – you know how every blog in the whole blogland has been all about fiddle leaf fig trees for the past couple of years? I would like to propose that we declare the yucca the new fiddle leaf. Low maintenance and sculptural and I love it.)
