My Looks

Those Old Things

Packing – which, to me, translates to How Much Stuff Can I Possibly Get Rid Of And Still Live My Life – is, weirdly enough, one of my favorite things to do. The fact that anything that you don’t toss or give away will have to be packed up and lugged long distances and then unpacked again is a pretty good motivator to force you to get rid of all that excess baggage, and also: it’s just fun to go through all your things. Trips down memory lane and such.

I spent the weekend going through my closets and bringing bag after bag to Goodwill (PSA: if you’re into thrifting, you should probably take a little trip up to the Elmsford Goodwill, because I dropped off some VERY good stuff), and rediscovered some old favorites that haven’t seen the light of day in several years…and so I thought I’d break ’em out for our dinner with friends at a Chinese place in Hartsdale (we went despite the unfortunate name – Fantasy Cuisine – because of the Times review and because oooo soup dumplings).

The Old Stuff…

  • The T-Shirt: A long time ago, I briefly dated a singer who gave me this t-shirt as a gift, and I think it actually might be the genuine article – as in, not, like, an Urban Outfitters reissue of a ’70s concert tee, but the actual tee itself. It’s got some seriously good holes in it, and t-shirts with massive, bra-exposing holes in them aren’t what I’m gravitating towards lately, but this one is so good I’ll give it a pass.
  • The Jeans: Do we like bellbottoms again? I think I might like bellbottoms again. The only problem with them is that you really do have to wear them with heels, and ugh. (I’ll tolerate the heel requirement for a pair of these, though; wishlisted.)
  • The Leopard Wedges: Oh god, did I ever love these shoes when I first bought them. It was actually Indy who pulled them out of my closet when I was getting ready for dinner and suggested I wear them (helping me get dressed is his new thing, and it is SO ADORABLE). Despite the fact that big leopard wedges hadn’t exactly been what I was looking to wear with my jeans and holey t-shirt, my feeling is that when your three-year-old asks you to wear leopard heels, you do. (Also, I’m totally holding on to these because I have a feeling that this look is going to come back around one of these days, and even if it doesn’t, if my daughter is anything like me she will be VERY excited to inherit a whole bunch of over-the-top footwear at some point during her teenage years.)

And The New…

  • The Hat: Well, it’s not technically new. But it is technically my son’s, so: new to me.
  • The Purse: I could not resist buying this for obvious reasons (and also because it was from DKNY’s resort collection, so it was majorly on sale), but worried that…I mean, it’s a red fringe clutch. How many places in the world can you wear a red fringe clutch?

You can wear a red fringe clutch everywhere, as it turns out. Every. Freaking. Where.
