Ramshackle Glam’s Top Ten Best Ikea Finds

Such a cool idea for creating extra living room seating…and love the layered rugs.

A couple of days ago I spotted a post on Domaine Home about their editors’ favorite Ikea picks, and I thought: I totally need to show you mine. Because Ikea may be the Seventh Circle Of Hell (at least with a toddler in tow), but it is also the site of some of my all-time favorite home decor finds.

Shall we?

ekenaset-chair-gray__0277768_PE417101_S4

EKENÄSET Chair ($199.99). Very Mad Men and wonderful; I love the dark wood/light grey fabric combo and feel like it’s a sleek way to add a masculine touch to the living room. I will be purchasing these for our living room upon our arrival in California, mark my words.

varde-drawer-unit__11203_PE088472_S4

VÄRDE Drawer Unit ($329). I bought this when we lived on the Upper East Side and had no kitchen countertops (really; we had none). Once we moved I started using it to store my office supplies, and once I said good-bye to my office I decided to repurpose it as my son’s dresser…and that’s my favorite use for it so far. The stainless steel drawers and rustic wood make it feel chic – and it’s sturdier than lots of the bigger Ikea pieces, with deep drawers and a nice weight to it.

lillbron-coffee-table-brown__0277782_PE417129_S4

LILLBRON Coffee Table ($99). Simple, chic and midcentury-esque…and that price! Can’t beat it.

rymdbas-duvet-cover-and-pillowcases__0202810_PE359225_S4

RYMDBAS Duvet Cover & Pillowcase ($19.99). I love love love Ikea’s bedding options for kids, and especially love this style; it feels like a Quentin Blake illustration (the guy who did all the Roald Dahl books). One caveat: Ikea toddler bedsheets and crib sheets only fit Ikea toddler beds and cribs (I discovered this only after bringing said crib sheets home and trying to get them onto my Pottery Barn crib, and: nope).

ranarp-floor-reading-lamp__0210371_PE363792_S4

RANARP Floor Lamp ($59.99). This floor lamp looks way more expensive than it is; it’s that kind of industrial style that you’ll find in high-end stores for hundreds. (Also available in chrome.)

tobias-chair__74048_PE190789_S4

Tobias Chair ($79). These chairs were my concession to my Ghost Chair obsession, and you know what? I love them, and wouldn’t even trade them for the real thing. (Well…maybe that’s a lie. But I do love them.) They’re easy to put together (even for me; witness this video in which I only embarrass myself a tiny bit while assembling them), clean-looking, work with a wide variety of dining room styles, and even rock a little bit, which is nice when you’re holding an infant and trying to eat dinner at the same time.

ryssby--throw__0322614_PH121692_S4

RYSSBY Throw ($29.99). This wool throw is super ’70s and awesome, and lends a little rustic-cabin flair to your living room or bedroom.

hurdal-bed-frame-with--storage-boxes__0255068_PE399082_S4

HURDAL Bed Frame with Storage ($549 for king). Speaking of rustic cabin flair, this bed frame is so cabin-in-the-woods, and would look gorgeous with a colorful quilt (or with contrasting super-modern and minimalist bedding). And check out that storage! Amazing.

koldby-cowhide__0217307_PE373644_S4

KOLDBY Cowhide Rug ($199.99). If I did not have dogs that totally ruin every single rug they encounter, I would totally replace our sadly destroyed cowhide rug with an Ikea version: it’s just as luxe-looking as the higher-end versions out there (and comes in a ton of different color and size variations), but at only $199 you can save your tears if your dogs destroy yours, too.

hemnes-dressing-table-with-mirror-white__81064_PE205599_S4

HEMNES Dressing Table with Mirror ($299.99). Finally, this dressing table strikes such a nice balance between vintage and modern, with clean, feminine lines; a great focal point for your bedroom.
