My Looks

Go Voyaging (And A Giveaway)

Our summer getaways this year are simple – a trip to the Santa Cruz boardwalk, a drive into San Francisco to visit friends for brunch, an afternoon exploring the redwoods in Marin – and so is my summer travel wardrobe. I want to fuss around with what I’m wearing on weekends even less than I want to fuss around with it in my daily life (which is not at all), so I’ve been keeping what I’m wearing as lightweight and easy as possible, and then just dressing it up with accessories. A loose-fitting top and denim cutoffs with a spectacular bracelet; a flowy dress with animal-print sandals and a bunch of rings; a bathing suit with a dramatic necklace.

If you’re traveling a lot this summer, placing the focus on your accessories is an excellent packing strategy: a cute pair of earrings takes up a whole lot less space than (another) pair of sandals, which means that you save lots and lots of space in Ye Olde Luggage.

You may have noticed me wearing these LAGOS pieces (from the sterling silver Voyage collection) all spring and summer long. Why? Because they seem like the kinds of pieces an especially glamorous character in Indiana Jones or The NeverEnding Story might have worn, which obviously means that I adore them. Tell me that necklace doesn’t look kind of like an Auryn. (It totally does.)

I think they’re gorgeous additions to a summer travel wardrobe: they’re not fussy in the slightest, and would look equally appropriate on a beach or in a fancy restaurant, but their oversized shape and intricate detailing gives them the kind of drama that instantly transforms even a tee and pair of shorts into an “outfit.” Just one or two pieces glams up a daytime outfit (or a bathing suit; I love the idea of pairing that necklace with a black string bikini)…and piled-on they make even the simplest dress look spectacular.
