My Looks

24 Week Check-In

I hit the 6-month mark this week (! this is going fast)…and finally started feeling the awesome energy burst that is supposed to characterize the whole second trimester.

The truth is that this pregnancy has been way harder, physically, than my first: I had worse morning sickness (and was still sick here and there until just a couple of weeks ago), and fatigue that lasted well up through my fifth month (and that I assume will be coming back to make an appearance in Trimester Three)…but I attribute about 90% of the exhaustion to the fact that I’m a mom already, which means constant motion and not a whole lot of time to chill out and lay down, even if laying down is kind of what I need to do.

That’s okay. Because it’s also really, really fun to go through this with a lot of the nerves taken away: when I feel a cramp, I know it’s probably just ligaments stretching; when I forget a vitamin one day, I know both myself and the baby will probably pull through; when I cry for no reason, I know exactly where the Crazy is coming from (not that it matters, exactly, but at least I know).

And I’m starting to see the kicks from outside! Which is LUNACY (seriously, it looks like an Alien sequel). And also truly the most exciting thing ever.

Anyway, in celebration of the 24-week mark I thought I’d do one of those pregnancy checklist things that I never did the first time around, but that always seemed fun (I snagged this one in part off of my friend Katy’s site – she’s due any day now!):

Maternity clothes? The Hatch dress pictured here (and in a blue stripe pattern, too). Oh my god I love them, and will definitely wear them afterwards, as well. I also can’t stop wearing this Anthropologie tunic, which isn’t technically maternity, but totally works for that purpose.

Symptoms: On the positive side: lots of energy, and my hair is doing kind of amazing things that I am very sad are due to hormones and not the fact that I just have amazing hair. On the negative side: sharp pains in the lower back, plus occasional foot cramps that Kendrick is getting very good at fixing.

Sleep: Less than I’d like thanks to the early call times for the Snuggle campaign I’ve been shooting and our son’s illness, but when I do sleep: BOOM. And I am someone who does not “boom” into sleep, so this is wonnnnderful.

Baby Prep: Did the big shopping trip this week. Also starting to look into baby seat/stroller options.

Best moment this week: My schedule over the past week has been kind of a disaster, and Kendrick has been driving back and forth from New Haven pretty much every day to help out. I know it’s hard for him, but he hasn’t said a word – he’s just been there. Which has felt great.

Worst moment of the week: Overall, this week has been good. I’m in a good mood. Which is good. Except I did accidentally drive through Manhattan on the way to Philadelphia, which is basically the stupidest thing you can ever do ever, and which meant that I sat on the completely jammed on-ramp to the George Washington Bridge with the empty gas blinky thing on (ooooops) for a very anxiety-filled forty-five minutes.

Miss Anything? I talked to Francesca on the phone for awhile on the drive to Philly yesterday and started really wanting a (late) night out with my girlfriends. I guess I could go pull a Katherine Heigl in Knocked Up (“Doorman: You old, she pregnant. Can’t have a bunch of old pregnant bitches running around”) at the clurrrrrb, but I’m not especially in the mood. I’d just sort of like to be in the mood, you know?

Movement: Tons, mostly right before I go to bed at night (apparently Baby likes banana splits and bad reality TV as much as I do). She also does somersaults when I’m getting my makeup done on set.

Food cravings: The chocolate ice cream madness has given way to mangos (but only the yellow ones), tangelos, egg cream sodas, and Sprite. And I could really, really use a bowl of Lucky Charms (they’re on today’s shopping list).

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really. The acid reflux is no fun, but it’s only occasional.

Happy or Moody: Happy. Like, collapsing-on-the-floor-laughing happy. Kendrick says “Don’t count your chickens.” (I think he may have a little PTSD going on.)
