DIARY

I Love You Guys

You made my day yesterday. Thank you so much for all the kind thoughts and well wishes (and advice…please keep it coming). I also just wanted to say:

it’s been so strange keeping such a big thing to myself, since what I write about every day is very literally whatever’s on my mind at the moment. If I’ve seemed slightly tuned-out and have been talking too much about things like biscuits…well, that’s why. I’ve been desperate to write about about a million more important topics, but have been holding back for obvious reasons, and when I hold back…apparently I talk about biscuits.

I guess there are worse things to talk about.

But still: I’m excited to get back to the real stuff that’s going on. Mostly the “massive anxiety about how to handle having two children under the age of three (not to mention a husband in business school)” thing. I mean, obviously I’m excited and obviously we’re going to figure out how to make this work…but also: you know. Terrified. Exhausted in advance.

It’ll be fine…right?

A few more things, while we’re talking:

1. I mean, seriously: how hot does my hair look today? I know, you’re blown away by all the glamour; just try to hold back the compliments.

2. I have been on the phone with Delta for my entire life. Stop dropping my calls, Delta. And please also stop locking me out of my account; I still do not know my password and possibly never will. (More on this “travel” thing in a second.)

3. The reason for my hot hairdo: my son is home sick, which means that we have read 4,567,285 books about dinosaurs and gone through an entire box of tissues. It is noon, and both of us are still in our pajamas, and I give up: the pajamas (and the side-pony) are staying put.

4. Speaking of my son being home sick: I spent last night Googling “things to do with a toddler who is home sick”, and some of the suggestions were…ahhh…not so up-our-alley (I think we’ll skip making DIY glue paint – !!! – for today, thanks), but some were actually excellent and cute. My favorites:

– Go through photo albums and point out friends and relatives (or, in our case, sit in front of iPhoto on Mommy’s computer);

– Skype with friends and relatives;

– Bake “cookies”: obviously you’re not going to ingest the results, so just pour a little water and flour or sugar into a bowl and mix away;

– Hold “book parties” to break up the sheer volume of TV that’s just going to get watched no matter what.

5. Why am I hanging out on the phone with Delta? Because I just booked another trip to see Morgan in San Francisco, during a week when Kendrick will be especially busy. Because it was so last-minute and because I used Skymiles it cost me exactly seven dollars and fifty cents (did you know that you can check car seats for free? You can) and I am SO EXCITED. Two weeks!

6. One more time: thank you. Mostly for coming with me while I figure out how in the world to take this next (huge, enormous, excitingterrifyingcrazy) step.

Love love love.
