Piercing Please

Q. Is there a piercing parlor in the city or surrounding area you’d recommend, or a place where I can find a stud like yours?

A. Unfortunately I don’t know of any great places in Westchester – the one I went to in Tarrytown was eh; all they had were basic silver hoops with little balls on them. I do know of a tattoo parlor in the city, Addiction NYC, that does excellent work – my mom, Kendrick and I all have tattoos from there – so presumably they’re good with piercings as well?

I have to be honest, though: I’ve never seen anywhere like Body Electric (the place Francesca and I went to in LA) before in terms of either the quality of service (you feel like you’re in a high-end boutique, not a tattoo parlor, and the staff is clearly interested in helping you find a unique piece that suits your personal aesthetic) or options for earrings to pierce with. They just had the most gorgeous selection, very unusual and much more fashionable than what you find at your average piercing shop, and they even created a custom earring for Francesca. They also carry super small-gauge yellow and rose-gold continuous hoops (no ball closure) that are much more delicate and elegant than standard second- and third-hole earrings.

Body Electric doesn’t have an online shop (yet; the owner told me one is in the works), but I bet if you call them up (323-954-0408) and tell them what you’re looking for, you can have the piece mailed to you and ask a local place to use it for the initial piercing.

One recommendation: if you’re doing an upper-ear piercing try to find a place that does it with a needle as opposed to with a gun; I’ve had bad experiences with cartilage piercings done with a gun in the past, but so far so good with this one.

Enjoy!
