Simple On The Sand

We were supposed to leave for a beach vacation in Ogunquit in just a few days (above is the video from our last trip to Maine – when I was about six months pregnant – so it’s been awhile). A last-minute work obligation meant I needed to push our trip a week, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start getting excited about four full days of sandcastles and seaside walks and lobster rolls (and maybe a quick detour to New Haven for some Pepe’s pizza on the way home).

Last summer I was all about the retro-inspired beach beauty (pictured above at Coney Island)…but this year? This year I want to keep things a little more no-fuss. Basically, I want to hide under a hat and collapse on a pretty towel, and make sure that I have every single thing in my beach bag that I might possibly need to stay comfortable, happy, completely stress-free…and a tiny bit glamorous, of course. Because that’s always fun.

What’s coming with me:

1. A big, dramatic beach hat, a fringed bag, and sunglasses in my favorite new shape;

2. Hair ties and bobby pins in case I want to transform the lion’s mane that I usually develop at the beach into a slightly more under-control updo;

3. A DVF for Roxy beach towel;

4. A little extra makeup for après-beach (MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation for shine, Clinique Almost Lipstick in Luscious Honey, waterproof mascara, and a gold pencil to add drama);

5. A car, because I no longer travel without at least several small vehicles on my person at all times;

6. Chunky nautical-inspired jewelry;

7. A sweet green-with-pink-hearts bikini (also from DVF for Roxy);

8. Simple Skincare Radiance Cleansing Wipes (one of my all-time favorite products ever) – I keep these in my bag all summer long in case I’m headed somewhere I want to look non-glowy for and need to freshen up;

9. A miniature bottle of Simple Skincare Eye Make-Up Remover, because even waterproof mascara can get smudgy after a long day of swimming, and this formula is gentle enough to use on saltwater-irritated eyes.

I can’t wait. Can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait.
