My Looks

This Is Today

When I put up what-I’m-wearing pictures on RG, I try to always make sure that they showcase the kinds of things that I really wear, in for-real life as opposed to here-I-am-taking-photos-to-put-on-a-website life. (That, for example, is why I almost always wear sunglasses in photos: because I always wear sunglasses. I am a tired mama, and tired mamas have puffy eyes.) It’s nice looking at pretty pictures of pretty outfits, but what I like exploring about fashion is how to make it work in my actual life; how to have fun and experiment with pieces in a way that actually makes sense for me.

But even so, when I’m taking pictures that I plan to post here I do tend to…you know, put on makeup first. Brush my hair. Wear heels, just because photographs and heels are generally an excellent pairing.

Not today.

In many ways it’s the things that I wear on my “off” days (days when I don’t have any shoots, meetings, or anyone to get dressed for besides my son, the mailman, and the cashier at the grocery store) that I have the most fun with. It’s nice to put on stilettos and lipstick and do your hair…but sometimes nothing feels better than wearing exactly what you want to wear: nothing more, nothing less.

Today, I’ve got zero on the agenda save for music class, a little writing-during-naptime, a trip to Stop ‘n’ Shop, and some climbing-and-swinging action at the play gym a couple of towns over. And so I threw on a few pieces that I love, that make me feel good, and that are nothing if not supremely comfortable: a slouchy (but so pretty) sweater, boyfriend jeans, and nude flats.

Zero makeup, because my skin feels like it needs a break.

A little gold jewelry, just because I like it.

A bag big enough for carrying anything we might find in the course of the day’s travels…and that’s got a little snakeskin in it, because snakeskin equals wonderful.

The remnants of the waves from yesterday’s video shoot (pulled into a ponytail), and bangs that are doing something really, really weird that could probably be fixed by sixty seconds with a straight iron, but eh.

Nothing more, nothing less.

On me: Amber V-Neck Sweater c/o Gypsy05, Paige Denim boyfriend jeans, Alexander McQueen bracelet, Kyler by Joy O. necklace (similar), nude flats via T.J. Maxx, Exotic Tote c/o Ann Taylor.
