New Color, New Care

Q. Can you post some photos of your hair color? I have a hair appointment coming up and need inspiration!

A. I went quite a bit lighter this time than I usually do; I wanted to look nice and summery for next week’s trip, but was also just generally looking for something a little different. My colorist, Doug at John Sahag Workshop, usually does balayage, but this time he lightened up the base color with a mild single process (only left on for about five minutes) before adding highlights.

One thing to remember about colored hair: it requires a little extra attention. I’ve spent the last year trying to take extremely good care of my hair (minimizing heat-styling, only washing it every couple of days, applying weekly deep conditioning treatments, etc), and so my big concern with the new color was keeping my hair feeling soft and healthy. I was using Dove’s Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo and Conditioner* up until recently, but I just switched over to the Color Care line*, which is specifically geared towards nourishing color-treated hair while protecting the color.

P.S. If you like the waves pictured here check back next week; I have a tutorial video coming up.
