Gliders For The Nursery And Beyond

Q. Jordan!

Where is your lovely glider/ottoman from? With baby #2 coming next year I’m on the lookout for a stylish glider that we can also keep in our living room. I was so put off by the look of the ones in Babies ‘R’ Us that I never had one the first time around, but I do love the way they feel.

Advice? Tips? Price point?

Many thanks!

Sarah

A. Hi Sarah!

That glider is actually an antique that we found in a charity thrift store in Nyack for $75, and a total mystery to me. I posted what I do know about it here.

If you’re looking for a non-traditional glider with a similar look, what I would suggest is scouting around on eBay for a vintage Arts & Crafts-style glider, and then investing a little money in having the cushion recovered, if need be.

Here’s an example of a rocker I found on eBay – there are lots of gorgeous, sturdy wooden options between $200 and $500.

If vintage isn’t your style, there are a handful of companies that make very pretty, modern gliders. They’re usually expensive (around a grand), but can be a lot more fashionable than the more traditional, functional versions I think you might have been looking at. I think the above styles are all gorgeous, and they range from not too bad (as gliders go), to whoa expensive. L to R, you’ve got DwellStudio ($1,199), The Land Of Nod ($385), and Oilo ($1,349).

(We have a grey one with white polka dots from Dwell Studio that I really like; click here for some shots from our Office-to-Nursery Makeover.)

And oh yes: This Target rocker is just $99. And isn’t the most stunning thing I’ve ever seen, but could also look kind of fun and retro in the right room. That’s all.

Oh yes, and congratulations!!!

Hope that helps!
