Thanksgiving Dinner Beauty Tips…And More

Sure, Thanksgiving is all about a cozy afternoon at home with your family. But there’s no reason why you have to spend the whole day lounging around in pajamas, and the last thing you want is for your makeup to look as overcooked as your Aunt Sally’s turkey. Instead, go for a clean, fresh palette with a couple of glam holiday touches.

Eyes

Apply a light dusting of pearly shadow to brighten up lids. Try: Maybelline ExpertWear Luminous Lights Eyeshadow Collection in Opal Lights for light skin and in Gold Lights for darker complexions. Then add a clean swipe of liquid liner, angling out slightly at the outer corners of your eyes. Try: L’Oréal Paris Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Black Mica.

For a wide-awake (and still daytime-appropriate) look, finish with Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara in Brownish Black, and then add a few single false lashes to the center of your upper eyelids. This creates a doe-eyed effect, as opposed to the vixen-y look that you get when you apply false lashes to the outer corners.

Lips

On lips, the key is making sure whatever you choose stays put throughout several courses—and seconds and thirds. I love Sue Devitt Lip Intensifier Pencil in Kirakira for natural, stay-put color. (Just top it off with a little gloss if you’re not into the matte effect.)

If you’d prefer a red lip, fill in your pout with a lip pencil. Then top it off with a matte stain for extra staying power.Try: Lancôme L’Absolu Crème de Mat in Potion D’Amour.

Hair

You don’t want to inhale stray locks at Thanksgiving dinner, so make sure you choose a style that allows you to keep your hair away from your face. One look I love is the half-up, half-down.

Spray volumizing hair spray at the roots of your hair. Brush the spray through to ends. Using a 1-inch barrel curling iron, create loose waves. Finish with a little more spray. Then pull back a section from each temple—braid sections, if desired—and secure them behind the head with a clear elastic. Pull out a strand or two around your face to keep the look relaxed.

Happy Thanksgiving!

And just because this is what we’re up to today – driving through Pennsylvania for hours and hours and hours on our way to Ohio to visit Kendrick’s family – here’s the road trip video we made last year.
