Bathroom Before-And-After And A Ramble About Wood Paneling

God, I love wood paneling.

I do.

I love it.

We arrived at the Migis Lodge at around 12:30AM on Saturday morning…and ten minutes after I saw this bathroom, I was mid-bubble bath. Seriously. I dropped everything and went straight for the clawfoot.

We departed about 34 hours later, and in that time span I took a total of three baths.

(By the time we left, as you might imagine, I was extremely, extremely clean.)

Speaking of bathrooms (because I am obsessed with them, obviously), above is our kind of boring downstairs bathroom “Before” (like, really before…as in before we moved in, which is why it’s winterized).

Want to see what we ended up doing it?

This. (It was part of the nautical makeover I did for this JITH segment.)

One of the things that I was most excited about when we moved was the fact that we’d have a real bathtub (as opposed to the poorly spackled two-inches-deep thing posing as a tub in our old apartment). And I really like it, actually…but still: it continues to not be somewhere I go all that often, because it’s in the basement and basements freak me out.

You know what might help make it cozier and less frightening?

Wood paneling.

(No, I’m totally not actually going to makeover this bathroom again…just fantasizing here.)

But ooh, wood paneling. Maybe one day, if we transform the scary, no-man’s-land part of the basement into a den or something, I’ll work it in.

Speaking of cozy dens, here’s another shot of the lodge, complete with fireplace and fancy footwear (those are Sorels; I was shooting them for an upcoming project with NY Mag).

End: ramble.
