How-To: Fall Espadrilles

Q. Hi Jordan!

Fall espadrilles…is that an oxymoron?

I’m obsessed with espadrilles, and I need some advice. I just got these shoes – they were on sale for $30 and so comfortable that I couldn’t help myself!

I know that rope espadrilles are traditionally summer shoes, but the suede uppers and closed toe pumps make these work for fall, right? I’m so biased toward them that I’ve lost all objectivity!

What do you think? Any styling ideas?

You’re the best!!

A. Espadrilles in the fall can be tricky, but they are doable, provided that you go for non-summery fabrics and a slightly dressier overall effect, and pair them with the right pieces.

See? These are Christian Louboutin’s Deroba Flannel Wedges. And if Christian Louboutin says that espadrille wedges can make their way into the autumn…who am I to argue?

You’re on the right track with the pair you chose: because they’re closed-toe, suede, and teal (jewel tones look great in the fall) they can work in slightly cooler weather (but once the leaves drop for good, I’d drop the shoes as well…at least until next year). I’d also add dark toenail polish to dress everything up that much more.

And now…some styling ideas for you!
