Weekend Bag Essentials

I don’t go on many weekend trips lately.

We keep meaning to plan one, you see, but for the past few months every time we start trying to get one on the calendar we think, “Oh, but wait: that might be the weekend we’re moving”…except, as it turns out, that weekend never arrives. (Apparently we’re moving “in just a couple of weeks.” I have heard these words before, and will get excited only when the moving van pulls up in front of our apartment building.)

But! I love weekend trips. Especially when they involve long car rides and a generous amount of time spent in the sand.

So in preparation for that day (I’m thinking…August?) when we hit the road bound for Maine or other points North, let’s talk Weekend Bag Essentials!

(This is me packing for my trip to San Francisco.)

Ideally, you’d like a pretty bag, of course…but even more important (to me) is to choose one that’s not so precious that it won’t mind getting tossed into the back of the car with assorted babies and dogs or squeezed under an airplane seat. This Isabella Fiore satchel is the kind of piece that just gets better with a little wear and tear.

Something I’ve discovered over the past year or so: that extra amount of time you spend caring for your hair  is enormously time-saving in the long run, because nourished hair is easy-to-manage hair (this goes for skin, too).

I’m currently in the process of testing out a whole bunch of different Dove shampoos and conditioners, but right now my #1 favorites are the Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo and Nourishing Oil Care Daily Treatment Conditioner (the latter has a gold stripe of Nutri-Oils to replenish essential nutrients).

And so these are travel musts…packed into handy little containers, of course.

As for what fills up the remainder of my makeup bag…on vacation, it’s all about keeping things as streamlined and easy, so I stick to the essentials: powder, blush, liquid eyeliner, mascara, clear gloss for day, red lipstick for night. (Click here for my easiest-ever makeup routine.)

You are so on my wavelength … I am packing for a beach weekend and was rereading your post about beach essentials then saw this new post! Right on with your suggestions, and I’ll shamelessly promote Simple’s travel-size packet of 7 face cleansing wipes for you…in the Florida humidity I suspect they will be a life saver.

    • jordanreid

ooh, have fun!! and i’m with you on the cleansing wipes — SOO much easier to travel with than liquid cleanser, and great in the humidity. #shamelesspromotionftw 😉

Where’d you get those GREAT travel bottles? They look like they are easy to fill and actually won’t leak.

    • jordanreid

they are totally great! no leaking whatsoever – every other travel bottle i’ve ever owned has created a total mess. i bought them at CVS; they’re the store-brand ones.
