How-To: Wear A Pale Pink Blazer

Q. Hi Jordan!

I have a quick styling question for you. I have this lovely Generra leather blazer that is several years old and unworn. It’s a super-pale pink…and I have no idea how to wear this thing. Please help!

A. I get where your confusion is coming from! It’s tough to wear a pale pink blazer without feeling a) too girly, b) dated (hello, ’80s!), or c) just a little…sickly-looking.

The trick with this thing is to play against the girliness of the color and the business-y shape with super-casual pieces (don’t be scared of rips in your jeans or tee), and then make the whole thing look tied-together and deliberate with gorgeous, super-feminine accessories. Lots of tees would look great thrown into this look – try black-and-white stripes, white (with a pocket)…even prints and neons could be fun, so long you keep the shape of the top relaxed.

If you’d like to go a bit girlier, the blazer can also work over a floaty, floral dress, but be sure that it’s a darker print (like the d.RA dress pictured above) so that you don”t look too ghostly, and roll up the sleeves to 3/4 for a more casual feel. And since what you’d be working here is a Winona-Ryder-in-Reality Bites vibe anyway…why not just rock the Docs? Just do it.

Beauty note: Since you’re wearing a pale fabric with some structure to it right next to your face, consider amping up your makeup just a tiny bit, adding a splash of bronzer and maybe a brighter-than-you’d-usually wear lipstick (anything from pink to red to orange could work, depending on your skin tone and how adventurous you’re feeling), and then contrasting the formality of the jacket with a deliberately-undone ‘do (like my go-to topknot).

And here are a whole bunch of perfectly-priced pink blazers, for those of you in search of your very own:
