Those of you who live in NYC know that it has been crazy with the weather lately. As in, crazy amazing. Weird. Almost hot.
And this fantastic weather has gotten me all excited about what I’m going to be wearing in a couple of months.
I’m a die-hard jean shorts-wearer, but this season I think I’m going to try a new silhouette: a boxy, looser boyfriend style rather than my usual shorts, which are a bit shorter and tighter.
Boyfriend shorts, however, present similar problems to boyfriend jeans. In short, they can look enormously shlubby if worn with the wrong thing. The basic rule: when wearing one item of clothing that you could arguably be wearing to paint a house, make sure that no other items of clothing on your body would be likely to be spotted in the vicinity of a paint can.
On top, I’d go for either full-on feminine or the sexy side of masculine: a sheer, floral blouse or a neutral (but beautifully-cut) tee. Either way, I’d add a loose updo and lots of jewelry to keep the look pretty. Maybe a little more makeup than you’d expect to see paired with shorts, and bright, fun touches, like candy-colored sunglasses and a neon purse.
For shoes, in the early spring tall boots work so long as the top half of you is a bit more covered-up, but as the weather warms up, I’d go for nude heels with a wide band of citrusy color (the Nine West Resort Lookbook contains lots of great pop-of-color picks).
